The guidance below describes our store policies and how to prepare a question; it does not confirm that any pictured garment is available to buy.
\n
\n
Sizing at a glance
\n
\n
Use the measurement chart for the exact item and size.
\n
Flat garment width and body circumference are different numbers.
\n
Compare a shirt you already enjoy wearing.
\n
No universal measurement chart is claimed for unverified garments.
\n
\n
\n
1. Begin with the exact garment
\n
This page explains measurement methods and fit decisions for Hawaiian-style apparel. It does not assign a universal chest, sleeve or length measurement to every small, medium or large label. The verified chart on an individual listing is the source for that garment. If a measurement is missing, ask before ordering. A sizing label from another brand, a past purchase or a different product family may be useful background, but it does not establish the dimensions of the shirt you are considering.
\n
Write down the design, product link, size range and any fit description supplied with it. Check whether the chart describes body measurements or measurements of the finished garment. If the label is ambiguous, clarify it first. A chart measured across the front of a flat shirt cannot be compared directly with a tape around your body. The additional room in a finished shirt is often called ease; it allows movement and is different from the dimensions of the body itself.
\n
Preparing a useful fit question
\n
Choose a shirt that already fits the way you want the new one to fit. Button it, lay it flat without pulling the fabric, and measure across the chest from one underarm seam to the other. Write down whether your number is a flat width or a full circumference. These are different measurements: a flat chest width is approximately half the garment circumference, while a body chest measurement includes no extra room for movement. Sending the wrong type of number can make an otherwise careful comparison misleading.
\n
Measure the back length from the top shoulder area to the hem using the method shown in the listing, if one is provided. Note whether the shirt is intended to be tucked in or worn loose. For a relaxed Hawaiian shirt, the amount of room you prefer at the chest, upper arm and shoulder is a personal choice. A smaller label is not automatically a better fit, and sizing up does not fix every problem. If your shoulders fit but the hem is too long, explain both concerns instead of asking only for a larger or smaller size.
\n
For a gift, use measurements from an existing garment where possible. Do not infer a size from a photograph of the recipient or from their age alone. Matching outfits also do not require everyone to wear the same label size: each person needs their own comparison. Keep body measurements private when they are not needed, and never send a face photograph or identity document to support for an ordinary fit question. Ask for missing item measurements through Contact Us.
\n
2. Chest and bust comparisons
\n
To measure a finished shirt, button it and lay it on a flat surface. Smooth it gently without stretching it. Measure from the underarm seam on one side to the underarm seam on the other if that is the method used by the item chart. Record the number as a flat width. Doubling it provides an approximate circumference of that part of the shirt, but construction details can affect the comparison. Do not silently convert the number and then describe it as the original measurement.
\n
For a body measurement, place the tape around the fullest part of the chest or bust and keep it level without pulling it tight. That number describes the body, not the shirt. A garment with exactly the same circumference may be too close-fitting for the relaxed look you want. A button front can also behave differently from a stretchy top. Look at the room in a shirt you already wear comfortably and compare it using the same method rather than choosing only from a familiar label size.
\n
3. Shoulder width and seam position
\n
If the listing supplies a shoulder measurement, check where it is taken. A common garment method measures across the back between shoulder seams, but a dropped shoulder or another cut can make that number behave differently. The seam on a loose camp-collar shirt may sit slightly away from the edge of the shoulder by design. You should not assume that every seam must land in the same place to fit correctly.
\n
Notice how your reference shirt feels when you move your arms forward. A tight upper back or pulling across the shoulder area can matter even when the chest width looks generous. If your comparison shirt has a very different cut, explain that when asking for advice. Support needs the actual measurement method and the relevant product rather than a photograph of you. Do not use the shoulder number alone to predict the entire fit.
\n
4. Back length and how you plan to wear it
\n
Check whether the listing measures length from the shoulder, the base of the collar or another point. Measure your reference garment from the same point. A few centimeters can change whether a shirt feels comfortable untucked, and a curved hem may have different front and back lengths. Record both where the chart calls for them. Do not use a photographed model’s height to infer the hem length unless the listing gives the garment dimensions and the size worn.
\n
Decide whether you want the shirt loose over shorts, layered over a plain top, or tucked into trousers or a skirt. The same length can work differently for those uses. A tucked-in look needs enough length to stay in place while you sit and move, while an untucked look is partly a personal proportion preference. If you need a shorter length, sizing down may also reduce chest and shoulder room. Compare all the relevant measurements before choosing that tradeoff.
\n
5. Sleeves and comfortable movement
\n
For a sleeve measurement, check the starting point. Measuring from the shoulder seam to the cuff is different from measuring from the center back neck over the shoulder. A short sleeve’s opening width can matter as much as its length if you prefer room around the upper arm. Make a note of the method in the listing and copy it on your reference shirt. Do not combine numbers taken using different methods in one comparison.
\n
An initial fit check should include movement. Gently raise your arms, reach forward, sit down and check the button front. The shirt should feel comfortable for your intended use, but there is no single preference that suits everyone. If you plan to wear it open over another layer, consider the extra space that layer needs. If the garment feels tight in one area and loose in another, describe both rather than asking for a generic size recommendation.
\n
6. Inches, centimeters and rounding
\n
Keep a consistent unit throughout your comparison. One inch equals 2.54 centimeters; convert deliberately and label the result. A chart rounded to whole centimeters may not match a conversion rounded to tenths of an inch exactly. A small rounding difference is different from a large discrepancy. If you are close to a size boundary, preserve the original numbers and ask about the chart method rather than rounding every number in the direction of the size you hoped to choose.
\n
Do not assume a manufacturing tolerance if the item listing does not specify one. The store does not publish an invented allowance for unverified garments. Measure gently, repeat the measurement and keep the same starting points. A soft measuring tape that has stretched or a shirt that is pulled taut can affect the result. If you are reporting an actual measurement discrepancy, include the chart value, your measured value, the unit and a clear photograph of the measurement setup.
\n
7. Choosing between sizes
\n
When two sizes appear plausible, identify the measurement that matters most for the way you want to wear the shirt. A relaxed chest fit may be a priority for layering, while a shorter back length may matter more for an untucked outfit. Review how changing size affects all the charted dimensions. Moving to a larger label does not increase only one part of the garment, and a smaller label does not shorten it without changing other measurements.
\n
Do not choose a size on the assumption that washing will shrink it to the desired fit. Shrinkage depends on fabric, construction and care, and no unverified shrinkage percentage is promised here. Alterations are also a separate personal decision that should be made only after checking the return and fit information. If you are uncertain, ask about the exact garment before ordering rather than buying several sizes on an assumption about stock or automatic exchanges.
\n
8. Matching outfits and gift purchases
\n
For coordinated outfits, collect a separate reference measurement for each wearer. A shared design does not imply a shared size. Men’s and women’s collections may use different cuts, and matching sets may consist of separate pieces with their own charts. Check whether the listing offers a single garment or an actual set; the photograph alone does not establish package contents. Each item in a planned outfit should have its own size decision.
\n
For a gift, a shirt the recipient already wears can be a useful reference if you have permission to measure it. Do not rely on age, a guessed body shape or a social photograph to choose a precise fit. Save the item information so the recipient can identify it if they need help later. Our policy allows returns within 60 days of delivery, but a gift date does not automatically move that delivery-based deadline. Ask about timing if the gift will be given much later.
\n
Care starts with the individual garment label
\n
The safest starting point for laundering is the care label attached to the garment and the verified instructions on its listing. Do not assume that every Hawaiian shirt can be machine washed, tumble dried or ironed at the same temperature. Cotton, linen, synthetic blends and other materials can behave differently, and construction details can change the appropriate care even when the main fiber is similar. If the label is missing or unclear, ask about it rather than experimenting with a high heat setting.
\n
For an initial fit check, handle the shirt gently and avoid washing, altering, removing tags or applying fragrance before you know whether it suits you. Try it indoors over clean clothing and check movement as well as how it looks standing still. Raise your arms, sit down and check whether the buttons pull. Those simple observations are useful when deciding whether a different size would work. If the item appears damaged or differs from the description, take clear photos and contact us before attempting a repair.
\n
When storing a shirt, avoid long periods in direct sunlight if color preservation matters to you. Let a damp garment dry according to its care instructions before putting it away, and check that any hanger supports the shoulders rather than stretching them. These are general handling suggestions, not a substitute for item-specific care. Our Returns & Exchanges page explains how to raise a problem without adding an artificial exclusion to the 60-day return window.
\n
Keeping a clear record without sharing too much
\n
A short record of the item link, SKU, selected size, selected color and date of your question is often more useful than several screenshots without context. If you are discussing an existing order, add the order number and the email used at checkout. Keep the original confirmation and any later change confirmation together. A reply in the same email thread helps avoid applying a request to the wrong variation or missing an important date. An initial message is a request; it is not proof that a change, refund or return has already been approved.
\n
When a photo is needed, show the relevant part of the garment and explain what the photo is meant to demonstrate. A full front view plus one detail can distinguish a wrong design from a print placement concern. Crop out unrelated people, documents, addresses and background items. For a delivery label, obscure details that are not needed to identify the issue. Never include a full payment card number, security code, account password or one-time authentication code in an attachment or support message.
\n
For any time-sensitive issue, state the date and time zone in plain words. Saying “today” or “last Friday” can become ambiguous when a message is reviewed later or when you and the store are in different countries. Delivery dates, return-request dates and cancellation requests each serve different purposes. Write the event next to the date so the sequence is clear. You can find the applicable processes on Cancel or Change an Order and Refund Policy.
\n
The return and refund policies work together
\n
You can request a return for any product, for any reason, within 60 days of delivery. There is no restocking fee. The return-request deadline is different from the period for shipping an approved return back: our default ship-back period is 14 days after return approval. Contact us first so the correct return destination and instructions can be provided. A website address, a sender address on an old parcel or an address found on a search engine is not automatically the current returns address.
\n
Return shipping is free when the item is damaged, defective, wrong or not as described; the store provides a prepaid label or reimbursement instructions. For a change of mind, including a size or color exchange, you pay the cost of sending the item back, and we pay to ship the exchange item out. An exchange depends on the requested item actually being available. If it is not, the refund path remains available. Do not buy a second item merely because you have asked for an exchange unless you intentionally want a separate purchase.
\n
Approved refunds reach the original payment method within 7 calendar days of approval. Approval means that the return has been received and inspected, a photo claim has been approved, or a cancellation has been confirmed. A request for help, a postage receipt or a pending bank authorization does not necessarily identify that approval date. Ask for the date and refund reference if you need to follow the progress. Read Returns & Exchanges for the parcel process and Refund Policy for the money process.
\n
Contact HawaiiDShop
\n
Write to support@hawaiidshop.com with the page or item you are asking about.
